Hello ladies. The last month has been a blur of hard work to me. I had an itch to redecorate our living room and to paint our interior doors black!. Yes black. I've finished 4 and have 4 more to go but hubby and I love them. They give you a more sophisticated and classy look to your home. It seems to be the new thing on pinterest, cause once I decided to do it. I looked up how to paint a door and all I saw was black interior doors everywhere. So my idea wasn't that original, but I am still going to share it with you.
So here is how I painted our doors.
Things you will need
- Primer to prime doors I used Glidden "gripper"
- Small Foam roller and paint brush
- Small paint tray
- Black interior paint I used Glidden Semi gloss interior paint and color matched it to Behr "Black onyx"
- Sheet or drape
- Painters Tape
- Screw driver and drill to remove hardware
- Tsp cleaner
Here it is finished !!
Here are the exact supplies I purchased
Directions :
I left door on hinges and just taped the hinges with painters tape.
I then wiped down door with Tsp cleaner and let dry for 10 minutes. I Removed door knob and then started priming with foam roller and I used a brush for the inside panels. Make sure to get primer on entire surface of door because the primer is what lets the paint adhere to the door. Once you have done 2 coats of primer and let them dry for at least 45 min each coat. You can start painting.
I started painting inside the panels first with a paint brush and then I Foam rolled the rest of the door and here is a great tutorial on how to paint the door streak free. I followed their instructions on painting mine. Make sure to do light coats of paint for first 2 coats or your door will forever be wet. I put a timer on for 1 hr after each coat and would move on to another door and continue these steps paint, dry, paint, dry and I finished 4 doors in 1 day!! It took 8 hrs each side eanh door.
After finishing one side I would move on to the next side and repeat the same steps. When front and back of door were complete. I then painted the inner parts of the door and around hinges and door hardware. Let door sit open over night without reattaching the door knobs, this will allow the paint to fully dry and you wont have a permanently stuck knob!!
I added a crystal and gold accent door knob to complete the whole look.
This is the progress of first coat.
After 3 coats of paint
Here is how we painted our pantry door.
Prime with 2 good coats of primer and then use a brush to paint inside panels and foam roll the outer edges. I first tried to spray paint but it wasn't working. So I decided to hand paint it instead.

Spray paint that did not work

Here are the other doors we painted during the whole process we completed 3 panel doors and our pantry door in 1 day.
