How to build a wardrobe of clothes you really like? My example is what I call the "Minimalist Wardrobe" Find nice quality key pieces that you can use as layering pieces in fall/winter, and use them as your casual tee's and button downs on your casual comfy days. These pieces should be something you can use for the next 2-3 years. Nothing too trendy.
I have over this last 2 years, gone through my closet and gave away more than 3/4 of it. If it wasn't something that I would buy now or haven't worn in 2 years I got rid of it. How many of you feel like you should do the same?
I've started mine with this list of items for the fall/winter:
(You can add to it or take away depending on your style but for me this has worked well)
- 2 White tee's 1 short sleeved and 1 long sleeved
- 2 Black tee's 1 short sleeved and 1 long sleeved
- 2 Navy tee's 1 short sleeved and 1 long sleeved
- 3 Flannels I prefer the soft and flowy ones
- 4 Patterned dressy shirts: 1 Gingham, 1 polka dot,1 leopard, and 1 blush
- 1 Black and white stripe tee
- 2 Blue and white stripe tee's
- 4 Cardigans a navy, brown, black, and patterned
- 1 pattern of your choice shirt IE: floral, Aztec, lace, etc
- At least 4 sweaters (I now have about 15) 1 black, 1 grey, 1 burgundy, and 1 mustard
- 4 Pairs of Jeans 1 black, 1 white, 1 light jeans, and 1 dark wash
- 6 Pairs of shoes 1 pair of leopard booties, 1 pair of black booties, 1 pair of tan booties, 1 pair of wedged booties, 1 pair of toms, 2 pairs of sandals you can dd more but make sure they are something you can use for the next 2 seasons
- 5 bags 1 black and white, 1 brown, 1 navy and 1 blush
